6 Responses to “How do I go about getting a tourist visa to China. Based in UK?”
I used chinavisaservices.co.uk. I downloaded the form from the website filled it in then printed it off. Sent the form, cheque, photo, print off of travel booked (online airline tickets) and my passport (you must make sure that you have two bland pages facing each other for the visa to be stamped in it) and I think that was it.
I posted it recorded signed for and received my passport back within 7 days. Easy peasy.
Must admit, I was a little worried about sending it in post, but it went very smoothly.
The time before that I went to the embassy/consultate in Manchester. Got there around 9 a.m. handed all paperwork in and paid for same day service. Went back just befor 11 a.m. and picked up my passport. – that’s ok if you live near Manchester.
The last time I applied for Visa was July, so I dont think the rules have changed since then, but check on the Embassy/Consulate website just in case.
Hope this is helpful to you and have a great time.
You have to go to Chinese Embassy or contact them online for them to send you forms etc for visa – just google chinese embassy and you will get into their site – but you do need a visa and I am sure you need some vaccinations – do not know which you have to have now as it has been a few years since I have gone – if you are booking with travel agency they will also give you the info you need
You will need what Chinese government call a "L visa", which is issued to an applicant who comes to China for tourist purposes, family visiting or other personal affairs. If you have a travel agent who can do it for you, that’s great, if you don’t, you will have to submit your application at your nearest Chinese embassy or consulate. Note that in the UK, applications by post are not accepted.
Currently, Visa fee for British citizensm single entry is 30 GBP. You can pay an additional 15 GBP for express service (1 work day) or 20 GBP for same day service.
Here are the address:
Embassy in London: 49-51 Portland Place London W1B 1JL
Consulate-General in Manchester Denison House,71 Denison Road,Rushoeme,Manchester,M14 5RX
Consulate-General in Edinburgh: 55 Corstorphine Road, Edinburgh EH12 5QG
If you are passing through Hongkong and staying there for a day or two, you can get a visa from the China Travel Services, located on Peking Road, Tsim Sha Tsui. Kowloon. Whilst there, you can arrange all your tickets, by air, land or sea.
