Army to probe Chinese incursion in Ladakh
ndian Army’s [ Images ] Northern commander, Lt Gen P C Bhardwaj, will visit the Leh-based 14 Corps headquarters over the next few days to verify reports of Chinese incursion in the Ladakh area.
Sources say the matter will also be raised at the next border meeting between Indian and Chinese officials.
Official sources have said that Chinese troops entered nearly 1.5 km into the Indian territory near Mount Gya, recognised as the international border by India and China, and painted the word ‘China’ in Cantonese on the boulders and rocks there with red spray paint.
The incursions were reported from the area generally referred in the Chumar sector in east of Leh.
The 22,420 ft Mount Gya, also known as ‘fair princess of snow’ by the Army, is located at the tri-junction of Ladakh in Jammu and Kashmir [ Images ], Spiti in Himachal Pradesh [ Images ], and Tibet [ Images ]. Its boundary was marked during the British era and is regarded as the international border by the two countries.

‘China gobbled lot of Indian land in 2 decades’
The government may play down reports of Chinese incursions along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), but an official report has confirmed that Beijing has gobbled a substantial chunk of Indian land during the last two decades.
The Assistant Commissioner of Nyoma in Ladakh has written to the Jammu and Kashmir government about Chinese incursions along the LAC. Headlines Today had travelled to the LAC last week and found from local shepherds how China had been intruding into Ladakh.
At a recent meeting in Leh, officials of the Jammu and Kashmir government, Union home ministry and army agreed that it must be accepted that India was withdrawing from the LAC and its area had shrunk over a period of time.
According to the report, India had lost a substantial chunk of land in 20-25 years. The meeting was chaired by Leh Commissioner A.K. Sahu. The meeting agreed that there was difference in the maps of various agencies and no proper mapping of the area. The meeting also conceded there was a lack of clear policy on Chinese intrusions.
Govt should take up matter: Farooq
Union Minister for Renewable Resources Farooq Abdullah described the encroachments by China a tragedy for India.
"Now that the government has woken up, I hope it will take up the issue with the Chinese during border discussions," Abdullah said.
Abdullah hoped that once the border demarcations were done, the encroachments would stop.

While India’s foreign policy was always bad, I rate the UPA’s foreign policy as ‘average’, as we can’t ignore the renewed strategic ties with the US, Israel, EU and Russia.
The Vajpayee era saw a terrible foreign policy, with issues like the Kargil war and Kandahar humiliation.
