American passport holders visiting Hong Kong do not need a visa, a 90 days visa is issued to them upon arrival.For visiting Mainland China,they require a separate visa issued by a Chinese embassy overseas,for they do not qualify for visa on arrival at a Chinese port. They can freely live in Hong for 90 days and return to the US without any visa or other formality.
