Why didn't the Great Wall of China stopped the Japanese advance into China?

Japan invaded from the north (Changchun region from Korea) I was wondering why didn’t the great wall stall the Japanese advance when it stopped the Mongolians years ago?
I’m talking about the period from 1936-1945.
